What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots, typically made of titanium, that are surgically placed into your jawbone. They provide a permanent foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

How Dental Implants Work

The dental implant process typically involves several stages:

1. Consultation & Planning — Dr. Hsu will evaluate your oral health, take digital X-rays, and develop a personalized treatment plan.
2. Implant Placement — A titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over several months through osseointegration.
3. Abutment Placement — Once healed, a connector piece (abutment) is attached to the implant.
4. Crown Placement — A custom-made crown is attached to the abutment, completing your new tooth.

Am I a Candidate?

Most adults in good general health are candidates for dental implants. Ideal candidates have adequate jawbone density, healthy gums, good overall health, and a commitment to good oral hygiene.
